January 2024 Portrait of the Month — Kalman Huberman

Kalman Huberman

January's Portrait of the Month features Kalman Huberman. It was created at a workshop we held in partnership with Centropa, an organization devoted to preserving Jewish memory. Twenty teachers from Eastern Europe, Israel, and the US participated in this online professional development workshop. One teacher, after viewing the portrait he had created, remarked “if you could roll back time 15 minutes, I would never believe that I could have made this.” The teachers will bring the techniques they learned back to their classrooms.

Kalman is the uncle of Memory Project Productions co-founder Roz Jacobs, and the inspiration for the project itself. Kalman was killed as a child during the Holocaust, but his memory lives on through these portraits and in his family’s stories.
