June in Dallas

June in Dallas is hot. We were told it gets even hotter. But heat and storms didn’t stop us from having a fulfilling and productive time at the 2023 AHO Summer Conference at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. It was great to see faces of old friends alongside many first time attendees who showed great enthusiasm for keeping up the work of Holocaust education at a crucial time when firsthand survivor testimony is dwindling. The conference included great focus groups, roundtable discussions, and excellent presentations on the current state of Holocaust education, the rise of antisemitism and extremism, and how to adapt and a respond to a rapidly-shifting educational and social landscape.

The museum space was beautiful with innovative and interactive exhibit components, and a striking installation dedicated to the ten stages of genocide. The Human Rights Wing explores how the world moves forward from immense tragedy and sparks hope for a more peaceful future. Special thanks to Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum President Mary Pat Higgins and AHO President Susan Myers for putting on a great conference.
